The Digital Surge: How Gaming is Adapting and Thriving in a Changing World

The interactive entertainment sector is evolving alongside a shifting world. Global events compelled a greater reliance on digital spaces, and gaming was no different. Though the sector experienced initial challenges, it’s rebounding with renewed vigor. This resurgence stems from companies adopting digital tools and pioneering novel methods to connect with players. Even as the global situation normalizes, a return to the status quo is unlikely. Instead, we’re progressing towards a future characterized by heightened technological integration. Consider autonomous vehicles and remote conferences – the concept of a metaverse is fast approaching! The gaming sector is prepared, but are you?

The times ahead are upon us, it appears.

This entire ordeal has demonstrated that we can utilize technology to maintain progress – from telecommuting and video conferencing to weekend virtual gatherings. We’ve become accustomed to having provisions and meals brought directly to our homes, only venturing to shops when absolutely essential.

Perhaps we were overdue for a technological transformation a while back, but the truth is, we’ve expedited the procedure, and there’s no justification to halt now.

As much as we all relish in-person engagement, we must acknowledge that it might not be feasible regularly for a considerable period.

Our habits are evolving, and the interactive entertainment sector must adapt alongside them.

Fortunately, we operate within a sector that is inherently electronic and progressive, with numerous businesses, providers, and partners generally concurring that they will persist with predominantly remote employment strategies because, frankly, it has proven effective for them.

This compulsory online transition, prompted by the postponement of athletic competitions, has also witnessed the growth of competitive gaming and simulated sports – two sectors that are, inherently, digital.

The head of Golden Race, Martin Wachter, observed during a virtual affiliate event in May that simulated sports experienced an average player surge of 206% as a consequence of the global health crisis.

During the same gathering, Tom Wade, a co-creator of the esports wagering platform Sickodds, emphasized the impressive fortyfold expansion in esports betting on games such as FIFA and F1. This rapid increase is a direct consequence of the smooth shift to entirely digital platforms.

These figures clearly demonstrate the industry’s swift movement toward a digital-centric strategy, occurring even more rapidly than predicted.

For providers in areas hesitant to adopt the online realm, especially in Latin America and the United States, this pattern presents a strong argument for adaptation. The SBC Digital Summit in April, concentrating on the current situation in Latin America, stressed the pressing need for the region to strengthen its online visibility.

The agreement among speakers was evident: areas heavily dependent on physical operations must pivot to the internet to stay competitive. This poses a critical inquiry: could this digital surge, fueled by necessity, finally compel Brazil and Argentina to reevaluate their position on internet gambling legalization?

A parallel situation is developing in the United States, where many states remain opposed to online gaming. At the same summit, Barry Pack, head of the Oregon Lottery, stressed that post-pandemic recovery depends on expedited digital transformation within the sector.

This urgency might leave nations like the US and those in Latin America with no alternative but to hasten their digital evolution and stay current with the times.

The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly affected everyone, but it has also provided a chance to learn, adjust, and emerge more resilient.

The internet gaming sphere cannot fall behind. To remain current, it must adopt the vast possibilities presented by going digital.
